Hang Tuah Coffee began its humble beginnings before the year 1955, by the late founder, Tuan Haji Zainal bin Haji Said. He sought to create a distinctive local coffee powder, inspired by Malaysians' love for their Kopi-O. He named his brand after a famous Malay warrior, Hang Tuah, who was a crucial figure in our country's independence. During the British rule of Malaya, the brand went by 'Chap 3 Murid' (3 Student Brand) to avoid provoking the British authorities. This delightful blend of inspiration and history evolved into the beloved Hang Tuah Coffee we enjoy today.
Before 1955
On the eve of Malaysia's Independence in 1957, Tuan Haji Zainal launched the Hang Tuah Coffee Powder Mixture, kickstarting the small family business which produced and sold whole coffee beans, ground coffee, and spices. Operating from Sungai Lokan, Penang, Tuan Haji Zainal was a man that wore many hats including producing, manufacturing and marketing the products.
1957
The first Tuah Store opened a year later, paving the way officially for Tuan Haji Zainal's Kopi 'O' business to expand nationwide.
1958
On 20 July 1974, Hang Tuah's coffee factory in Sungai Lokan relocated to a new facility to accommodate the surging market demand. In alignment with their business growth strategy, the revamped factory integrated ample space for raw coffee bean storage, a production line, and office premises.

As the years progress, Hang Tuah's coffee factory in Sungai Lokan could no longer keep up with the escalating market demand. Thus, in 2002, Hang Tuah transitioned to its newest facility situated in Taman IKS PERDA, Kubang Menerong, Tasek Gelugor, Penang. Leveraging cutting-edge industry technology, they adopted Spanish techniques and machinery to craft the perfect cup of coffee. Safety, health, ergonomics, and overall environment were prioritised during the facility's construction. Special air filters were installed to prevent any toxic gases or by-product contamination, ensuring that the environment is not negatively impacted by our operations.
This facility houses most of the company's operations, including Logistics, Manufacturing, Production, Human Resources, Research & Development, Quality, Accounting and Finance, with the exception of the Sales and Marketing division, which is located at our corporate office in Kuala Lumpur.

The finest coffee beans are selected and stored in a dry place to undergo "out-gassing"; A process that releases moisture. Only high-quality beans are chosen and roasted by the barista.
Step 1: Selection and Out-Gassing
Our baristas will roast the coffee beans first, then re-roast them with sugar to produce a rich flavour. The beans are then allowed to cool before grinding.
Step 2: Roasting
After roasting, proper storage is essential to retain the fresh coffee taste. The beans are ground to the right consistency according to our product standards. The types of grindings include fine (similar to a Turkish grind), and coarse (for coffee percolator or French press), in line with the standard preparation methods.
Step 3: Grinding
Once ground, the coffee beans are packed in high-quality packaging to prevent air penetration as environmental factors like air, moisture, heat, and light can reduce the coffee bean's taste.
